Vascular Tumors

Receptors in the temporal bone that sense oxygen produce a type of tumor that is called Glomus. These are slowly growing benign tumors that are problematic. They slowly invade the nerves that are transmitted through the temporal bone and are silent until they start causing problems with hearing, movement of the face, swallowing and speaking. They are managed by carefully planned surgery, a subcategory of head & neck surgery that is called skull base surgery.
